Breathing Athletes

According to recent research, it has been said that breathing deeply results in giving athletes between a 1% and 2% edge on their fellow competitors. Breathing oxygen in through your nose and down through into your diaphragm brings the blood more of what it needs to sustain your during periods of exercise. Although it seems to go against what is natural, as exercise can often cause us to struggle for breath, being conscious of the breath that is entering and leaving your body provides a focus and allows those deep breaths to work their way deeper into our bodies. Shallow breaths do not allow the oxygen to travel as far as it should and also gives the sensation of being out of control. Yogic practice can help to practice breathing as this type of inhaling is something that requires effort and attention before it is used during the exercise routine.
