Wind Noise May Damage Cyclists’ Hearing

Who would have ever thought cyclists might be making themselves lose their hearing? According to a recent study wind noise that cyclers experience while riding may be damaging their hearing causing noise induced hearing loss. Long term bicycling may leave some with permanent damage if they are reaching speeds of 60 mph where decibels were recorded at their highest, comparable to a clap of thunder or an ambulance siren.

Key Takeaways:

  • Loud noise may damage hearing
  • The sound of the wind when a cyclist is moving fast reaches the dangers point of loudness
  • Cyclists are exposed to sounds in addition to traffic which might long term damage hearing.
